I went to play expo in manchester on 14th October and it was pretty good. There were ALOT of old school games there and pinball machines, i know random right? There was also a few new games that are coming out there but not a lot which was disappointing. Metal gear rising was there, halo 4, studio ghibli's brand new game which i missed playing on :/ But i played on halo 4 capture the flag multiplayer, which was pretty good :) defo gonna buy halo 4 i think.
-put halo 4 pic here.
I main event i think for this expo was having the Wii U there which we all painstakingly queued for for like 45minutes, urgh. But when we got in it was nice to see what it was all about, i had a go on new super mario 2, batman arkham city and rayman. I found that on new super mario the WiiU was only really used to place blocks whilst another player is doing everything else, collecting coins, beating baddy's and soon enough it was completely boring. The game had nothing new to offer really other than the blocks you added with the WiiU tablet, a real let down. So i moved on to batman arkham city having played it on xbox, the graphics were a real improvement really really done well, i have some pics here of the batman -
As you can see everything is much sharper and a great thing the've added is you can select as use you gadgets on the table, so for example say like you through your remote battarang it doesn't show you where it's going on the main screen, you have to actually move the tablet and watch where the remote batterrang is going on that. It's a very good and quirky idea but to be honest i found that it took me like a bazillion goes to get it to hit the switch this was due to how hard it was to control the battarang by using the tablet, a bit too much effort for what it was. I also found that as i was playing i had to keep stopping to look at the tablet, every god damn minute, it just got a little annoying, so again we moved on to another game.
Rayman - What a game they've made here. The multiplayer was epic the interaction with two players you have is great, whilst one is controlling the blue man another is controlling the little fly guy thing :) (don't know the names) So whilst one player is running really fast through the level ducking and kicking the seconde player is helping along the way to activate gates, switches and even rotating the tablet to get the first player out of a maze. This idea was fantastic and we played it several times because it was so good, here's a few pics of the maze level, really good idea-
Overall i thought the WiiU was pretty crap, just because for the price people are going to pay they haven't changed that much, they have just given you a tablet so the second player has something different to do, which in most games is boring and a little annoying. The only great thing i can say about the WiiU is the tablet with Rayman, if they have loads of games which use it for more interesting things where you can participate constantly and really get involved.
Back to the old school games that were there it's always great to re-visit those memories from your childhood and i found a game there i haven't played since i can't even remember, i must have been around 7? It was Tiny Toon Adventures Buster Busts Loose on the snes, so many memories from this game, i really wish i could get it on the Wii store, i'm gonna actually check when i'm next on it.
Here's a little bit of gameplay from the old game, can you remember it? Skip to 37 seconds -
