We were briefed on our new assignment on friday which is game art and Machinima, i'd googled Machinima a couple of days before starting uni so i'd understand a little bit what is was and annabeth explained to us all in more detail what is it. Machinima is like the cinematic in a game, whether it be a cinematic which totally stops you playing and shows you a scene then you go back to playing the game, or a in game cinematic one where maybe you can still turn your body or head to look around the room whilst the cinematic is going on, there's lots of different types of it. We were asked to think of an example or few for the next day and i came in with a handful but then realised all i had was game trailers except one thinking they were cinematic Machinima, which is true they are cinematic, but Machinima has to be in game play cinematic, so no trailers or anything like that.
So here's the one example i had left to show -
Fallout 3 - Blowing up Megaton
and here's some example's from the lesson of machinma -
shenmue 1 Barfight QTE
Half life 2
Assassin's Creed: Reve... : Part 1: Opening Cutscenes
Here's my notes from the first lesson i took
Back to the brief - basically we have to create two humanoid characters in a group of three. During the course of the next two months we are to produce concept art for characters and environments, storyboards for cinematic, model the characters and environment, UV map everything, add lighting, cameras, sound, do the cinematic itself in unity. Basically EVERYTHING, i've probably missed something of the list there but ah well.
We also have to base the cinematic/ cutscene on one of three themes
EXCHANGE | STOLEN | SURVEILLANCE
So i need to be thinking about what group of three I want to be in.
