Tim Spanjer - 3D Environment Artist

An interesting 3D environment artist I researched was Tim Spanjer I came across his work in 3D world a magazine that I subscribed to last year. I find that having this subscription really boosts my knowledge and for example gives me ideas and people to look at that inspire my work and show me how they do it.

Go check out his page, he's a really talented guy.

Tim's work is very beautiful he focuses on layout in a way that is no natural to the environment, everything flows well together. He is a great level designer and 3d artist and I take inspiration from his work a great deal.

I took into consideration for this project how he used light to gain a stronger depth to the scene I will use this in my work to bring out the effects more such as the candles in my scene I want to create them more realistic so I will create an orange glow to in force that strong effect of dim lighting.

He also has a lot of texturing skill and shows off his fantastic use of wireframe and lit normals, this is something i haven't had experience or practise in yet but i shall be looking into it to advance my practise and experiment on my future projects, i currently don't think i have enough time to experiment now with it on this one.

I took from his pieces notice how he pays so much attention to the little details such as a pile of rocks, I went into my scene and i created some rocks and pebbles and at first textured them pretty badly, but then I went back to this and re-textured them giving them a fuller feel, I also positioned them in a believable way that a pebble would on the ground, they shouldn't all be the same size facing the same direction, that just doesn't happen in real life.
Researched Tim really helped to inspire my work and workflow in this project.
